Artown Cool Jazz Vespers

Wed. July 9th & Wed. July 30th, 7-8pm

Twilight. Sacred Space and Words. Cool Jazz. Oh yeah!

These evenings of music will be a contemporary riff on an ancient prayer service.

For over 1,500 years, people have celebrated the close of their days with a serene service (called Vespers) featuring candles, singing, and prayer. We will be blending the very cool ancient forms and words with cool jazz. We will sing. We will light candles. We will pray. We will meditate on our lives. We will be thankful. We will relax. We will be safe to find peace in our hectic, noisy times.

The music is written especially for this service by local composer Louis Ling; it will be performed by an unusual jazz nonet (nine players), again all locals. So please join us at twilight in peace, with thankfulness, as part of a living, inclusive, embracing community.

We cannot make the darkness go away forever, but we can be light in that darkness for a peaceful hour.
